Jelanda is the First Princess of Artolia, only daughter to the king. It is not clear whether her mother is alive or not at the beginning of the story, but lack of her presence indicates that Jelanda was acting as Queen in her mother's place, probably because of the state of emergency in her country. She's incredibly young to deal with such responsibility, impulsive and very much a spoiled child. Her love for her father is absolute, as her story illustrates, and she has a bad habit of being vindictive when his honor or image is threatened. Or heck, any incident that makes her angry, for that matter...

Jelanda's reaction to Arngrim is a nice example of her character. ^.^ She fumed and schemed until she decided to disguise herself as a girl named 'Angela' (coincidentally the name of my DM, and something she came up with on spur of the moment - great planning, princess!), hoping to set him up in a job that would have led to his humiliation - or so I suspect. We never find out what it was she had planned, because when she returned to the castle after that visit, she was drugged and thrown into a box.

Jelanda wasn't expecting to be betrayed by Lombert; it's doubtful that she ever found out at all, until after her death. How she came to trust Arngrim in such a short time is a mystery... but it could have been anything from his gruff charm (ha) to his relatively honorable actions in regards to Jelanda and her predicament. It seems she likes him a lot more than I would have guessed by watching her actions when she was alive, but death changes people, so... ^.^

Personally, I think she has a thing for him. Why? Her sudden turnaround when she was in danger - she called to him for help first. Not her father, not the guards... it was Arngrim. Maybe she knew he was there and maybe not, but why would she call to him for help when her father is obviously the most important person to her in her life? It's only speculation of course, and I haven't devoted an entire page of theory to this guess, nor do I think it's "cute" to pair them off. It just seems to... present itself. ^.^
