Silmeria Valkyrie

Age: ?
Race: Aesir
Birthplace: Valhalla
Gender: Female
Class: Chooser of the Slain
Battle orientation: Swordsman/Archer

Of the three valkyries, Silmeria is probably the most mysterious. She only makes one appearance in the story, and that only if you choose to fight Brahms. She simply hangs silently, encased in crystal and sleeping, in the throne room of Brahms Castle. She is obviously his prisoner, but the circumstances of her capture and the nature of her imprisonment are unknown.

Silmeria, like the other two valkyries, is supposed to share the same vessel with Hrist and Lenneth. She is only one third of the complete psyche, yet she is imprisoned outside of their existence. Brahms states, after the credits at the end, that while Silmeria has been separated from her sisters, she's still a part of them... but that could mean any number of things for the valkyries. The story does not clarify the issue for us, so we can only speculate.

In mythology:

The valkyrie in this game are a strange mix of the mythical valkyrie and the Norn sisters - shield maidens and goddesses of fate, respectively. They are completely different entities in Norse mythology. So while Silmeria is both a valkyrie and the goddess of the Future, that is not an accurate representation of the legends. I have further musings on that, as well as what it means for the personalities of the game's valkyries, if you're interested.

Silmeria represents the Norn sister Skuld, the Maiden, who is the keeper of the Future. She is supposed to be the greatest of the Norn, or so I hear. One can also speculate that, just as Hrist and Lenneth seem to reflect different interpretations of the valkyrie through time, Silmeria represents the more romantic, popular vision of valkyrie as softer, idealized handmaidens. Her design reflects this idea, but we don't see any confirmation of this in the game.

For a more contemporary equivilent, you can look at Skuld of the Oh! My Goddess! series. We have no way of knowing if their personalities are similar, but I doubt it. It's all about the references. ^.^
